Room Size Recommendations for PIVOT
Other related information:
At the simplest level, if you can fit a double/full size bed into your room, you can normally fit PIVOT. If you have a 3x3m (10x10ft) room, you can fit any of our bed sizes in. It is a little more nuanced than that, though, as you need to have space at both sides of the barbell to load plates.
The PIVOT Bed and Rack both change dimensions with the size of mattress chosen, but none of our other products do. The Bed changes in length* and width, while the Rack only changes in length*.
* length becomes height when vertical in exercise mode
A Reminder of our Sizes
We currently offer PIVOT in any combination of the below lengths and widths, which give the mattress dimensions, not the overall product dimensions.
We rationalise sizes a little to make things easier for everyone, and we’ve never had anyone from any country have an issue with fitting their mattress.
We do not make custom sizes, only combinations of existing lengths and widths.
If you’d like to order a combination of Length x Width that is not listed by name on our product pages, please choose the Custom option and include a note when purchasing stating what length and width you would like.
Lengths:
-
1900mm / 75”
Examples are the UK and US Double, and the Spanish and French King.
-
2000mm / 79”
Examples are the UK King and Super King, US Queen and King, EU Double, King and Super King.
Note: A US Queen mattress normally measures 2050mm / 81” but we have rationalised this to 2000mm / 79”.
-
Each bed can, with a single made-to-order part, be extended by 50mm / 2”, but we have never found this to be necessary. This would give the ability to use a 1950mm / 77” mattress length, or a 2050mm / 81” mattress length.
You will need to discuss this with us before ordering.
Beds cannot be shortened but a gap between the mattress and frame isn’t a problem.
Widths:
-
1400mm / 55”
Examples are the UK, US and EU Doubles.
-
1500mm / 59”
Examples are the UK King and US Queen.
-
1600mm / 63”
Example is the EU king (also common in the Middle East).
-
1800mm / 71”
Examples are the UK and EU Super King.
-
1900mm / 75”
Example is the US King.
Recommended Room Size
Most often the major factor to consider here is not the width of the bed but the length of your barbell, and the space needed to load it on each side. Please read this article for more information:
Where’s the best place to position the PIVOT Bed?
This will sometimes mean that with a narrow room you are better having the bed oriented so the bed length is along the short dimension of the room.
Once you have decided on orientation, you can use the below to guide you. Note that when we refer to length we mean according to the bed’s orientation.
Room Length
We recommend no less than 300mm / 12” of space between the foot of the bed and the wall. You should ignore baseboards (often called ‘skirting boards’) as our design reaches over them, making them irrelevant – measure wall-face to wall-face.
1900mm / 75” long mattress beds
We recommend your room measure no less than 2350mm / 93”.
2000mm / 79” long mattress beds
We recommend your room measure no less than 2450mm / 97”.
Room Width
Ensure you have read the page linked to above on the best place to position your bed so you understand the implications of loading a barbell.
We recommend the minimum width of your room is your chosen barbell length + 400mm / 16”. Please read the section below on Barbell Size Advice.
- 1830mm / 6’ barbell: your room should measure at least 2230mm / 89”.
- 2010mm / 6’6” barbell: your room should measure at least 2410mm / 95”.
- 2140mm / 7’ barbell: your room should measure at least 2540mm / 101”.
Ceiling Height
- For a 1900mm / 75” long mattress, the minimum ceiling height is 2010mm / 79”.
- For a 2000mm / 79” long mattress, the minimum ceiling height is 2110mm / 83”.
Please consider any flooring you will add. Our multi-layer flooring is only 7mm / 0.25” on hard floors and 18mm / 0.7” on carpeted floors (requires layer of plywood under the rubber).
The pull-up bar can be set to any height from around knee height, so this is not a consideration. Obviously you’ll need to set the bar to a height which will allow your head above the bar (300mm / 12” is normally enough).
Barbell Size Advice
We don’t recommend full size (7 ft) barbells for home use and they do not fit in our underbed storage units as the bar is longer than the bed.
- A 2010mm / 6’6” barbell will fit perfectly under a 2000mm / 79” long bed.
- An 1830mm / 6” barbell will fit easily under a 1900mm / 75” long bed (with 80mm / 3” spare).
